If one were to measure the number of landmarks per unit area for country, then undoubtedly Greece would come out as the number one nation in this regard. There are so many famous places in Greece and the amazing thing is that some of them have been famous for thousands of years.

Many of the famous places in Greece have earned their fame through their contributions in the advancement of human civilization no less and some are famous because of their natural beauty, for example the island of Corfu and Thessaloniki which is the capital of Macedonia. The landmarks that adorn these places are markers in the journey of the evolution of Western society.

Here are a few of the most famous places in Greece that should be on the must-visit list of every tourist.

Athens – The capital of Greece tops any list of famous places in Greece. In Athens, you feel the vibes of Greek culture all around you. The Acropolis dominates the city’s collective consciousness. Museums, markets, fine dining restaurants, ancient temples, and other archaeological sites assure of Athen’s fame as a great global city.

Santorini – The volcanic islands of Santorini are amongst the most beautiful and famous places in Greece. The black sandy beaches of Kamari and Perissa are unique and the settlement of Santorini on the cliffs above the beaches offers panoramic views during the day and a dynamic nightlife after sundown.

Rhodes – This has been amongst the famous places in Greece ever since the Colossus of Rhodes, one of original Seven Wonders of the World, was erected at the harbor gates of the city. The acropolis of Rhodes, the Grand Master’s palace, and the archaeological museum are some of the places worth visiting in the city.
