Greece Beaches: Santorini, Maragas, Plaka, Naxos, & Mykonos

Red, Black, & White Sand Beaches
Greece has a long coastline of 13,676 km and is surrounded by sea on three sides. The country is blessed with some of the finest beaches in the world. Greece beaches are amongst the top tourist attractions in the country and with good reason. Greece beaches offer something for everybody; you can experience beaches with white sands and turquoise waters, secluded beaches with quiet coves, beaches for the party animals, beaches where nudity is accepted and even beaches with black sand.
The best time to be at the Greece beaches is mid-September when the waters are invitingly warm and the beaches are relatively uncrowded. October onwards the waters start getting chilly. That the Greeks take good care of their beaches can be gauged from the fact that there was not a single Greece beach that failed EU water quality tests in 2007.
You can move between the beaches on traditional ferries, catamarans, or hydrofoils. You can also access Greece beaches by road.
Here are some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece mentioned for your consideration should you ever visit this country.
• Panormas in Mykonos offers soft sands, beautiful scenery and seclusion.
• The narrow stretch of the Red Beach in Santorini offers clear waters for snorkeling and red pebbled sand that is mixed with wood shavings to keep it cool.
• The stretch from Maragas to Plaka in Naxos is popular with beach buffs of all kinds including nudists.

My sisters, mother, and I are planning a trip to Greece in October. We have our airfare to Athens from Tampa and back reserved but are having a difficult time figuring out which hotels to stay in and how to get from Athens to Santorini then to Mykonos and then back to Athens. We were told by friends that we could take a ferry but don’t know how to obtain this information. We fly into Athens on the morning of the 15th and want to head to Santorini on the morning of the 16th and stay 2 nights. We then would like to go to Mykonos on the morning of the 18th and stay there for 2 days, leaving on the 20th to stay in Athens that night and leave on the morning of the 21st. Please help us!!! Darla
